The story of the Hažić family farm begins in 1993 with the planting of the first fruit in the heart of the Međimurje hills of the Croatian Uplands. This family of four, mother and father Biserka and Radenko and their two daughters Tatjana and Valentina, touts 18,000 apple trees and 2.5 hectares of vineyards producing Sauvignon Blanc, Pušipel, Traminac Mirisavi, and Graševina. Tatjana has obtained her degree in tourism marketing, while Valentina has obtained her degree in viticulture. They welcome visitors to enjoy their award-winning natural juices, wines, apple chips, cider, and vinegar at their winery and campground overlooking verdant, rolling hills.
From hand-picking to cellar treating, the family respects every berry and each drop of juice. They honor the land that feeds their vines by cultivating it according to the highest ecological standards. In wine production, they use sources of natural basis, therefore the wine is “vegan friendly”.
This wine has been fermented and aged for six months in large, virgin oak barrels. This is the first wine of theirs to be introduced to the American market.
This straw-yellow wine with gorgeous clarity offers a mild aroma of oak and honey with floral overtones. It’s dry and quite rounded on the palate with lively acids, warmth, and harmonious, solid body. Crunchy pears with toast and cream comfort, followed by a clean, warm finish and a smile.
We recommend serving with mussels, white meat risotto, and pasta. Croatians enjoy this with a smoked sausage called Kulen.
